Family Group: 10:00 – 10:30 (limited to 8 participants)
For preschoolers with a parent or other adult helper assisting in the water. These “teams” participate in games and activities that teach basic skills like bubble blowing, alternating arm strokes, alternating kick and submerging. Children and parents learn to be safe around the water and children develop comfort in the water. There is no prerequisite.
Seahorse Group: 10:30 – 11:00 (limited to 8 participants)
This class is for young children (ages 5-7) and/or novices who are ready to begin swim instruction. These children are able to follow directions and work independently with an instructor in the water. Focus is on learning to enjoy and be safe in a water environment, developing comfort in the water, basic swim skills like bubble blowing, alternating arm strokes, flutter-kicking and submerging. There is no prerequisite. (This is similar to Red Cross Level 1)
Turtle Group I: 11:15 – 11:45 (limited to 10 participants)
Turtle Group II: 12:00 – 12:30 (limited to 10 participants)
for swimmers who are able to follow directions and work independently with an instructor in the water and have developed comfort and basic skills in the water. These swimmers are already comfortable fully submerging, can blow bubbles and control their breathing and, with assistance, can float on both their fronts and backs. Focus is on learning to float without support, coordinating a swim stroke with breath control and development of propelling swim strokes. (Roughly equivalent to Red Cross Level 2)
Dolphin Group 12:45 – 1:15 (limited to 10 participants)
For independent swimmers with focus on developing front crawl stroke coordinated with breathing, back crawl, treading, whip kick, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick and transition to deep water. (Roughly equivalent to Red Cross Level 3)
